Position Summary
The Tax Senior Accountant is part of a team overseeing the indirect and income tax function and reports to the Tax Manager. This role includes: (1) providing tax consulting and research services to internal stakeholders across the country, (2) defending the Company's tax positions internally and, when necessary, with project owners or their representatives, (3) developing and implementing policies, procedures, and training tools, (4) reviewing certain indirect and income tax returns, and (5) continuously seeking improvements and solutions for a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as primary reviewer of certain indirect and federal/state income tax returns and workpapers, including sales/use tax, gross receipts tax, and the collection of non-wage compensation reporting for W2 inclusion.Conduct tax research on topics or law changes, documenting findings clearly. Summarize key points and offer meaningful recommendations to the Tax Manager, operational leaders, and internal counsel.Support operations with various tax-related issues or inquiries from project owners and vendors, including assisting project teams or vendors in navigating the exemption process and completing required state forms.Collaborate with preconstruction/estimating teams on project tax budgets.Prepare projections of estimated future tax liabilities.Create and maintain internal tax policies, procedures, and tools on the Management System or internal intranet site, ensuring content is relevant and useful to users.Offer guidance on taxability matters as needed, most notably renewable energy and data center sectors, and potential expansion to new market segments.Research IRS payroll requirements as it relates to taxable travel reimbursements on an as needed basis.Some involvement in supporting unclaimed property filings, State audit requests, and communications with the IRS.Ad hoc projects, as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting CPA or MBA preferred, with 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate or public accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with indirect or income taxes is preferred. Ability to conduct and document technical tax research and communicate its relevance to the Company's operations. Comfortable working with and providing recommendations to key leaders of the Company on complex topics. Strong accounting, critical thinking, analytical, research, and communication skills (both verbal and written). Excellent organizational, time management, and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work independently. Effectively collaborates in cross-functional teams. Advanced Excel skills required, including proficiency in creating and managing pivot tables, lookup/reference functions, as well as statistical and logical functions.
