We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Operations Accountant (Senior Accountant). This role offers a hybrid arrangement in Little Rock, AR or Fort Smith, AR, or can be performed remotely from Arkansas, Texas, or Oklahoma.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles to record financial information, prepare financial reports, and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements for Summit Utilities, Inc. and its subsidiaries. This role plays a key part in month-end close processes, financial analysis, and audit preparation. As a senior-level professional, this individual provides leadership and guidance to less experienced team members while contributing to process improvements and special projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and analyze both standard and complex journal entries related to payroll and operational expenses, ensuring compliance with the month-end close schedule.Ensure journal entries are completed accurately and on time in accordance with the close calendar.Conduct trend analysis and variance reporting on assigned accounts.Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, investigating discrepancies and making necessary adjustments.Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Organize and document work in a thorough manner to facilitate management review.Resolve accounting issues independently and provide recommendations as needed.Lead and manage special projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful completion.Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support the completion of annual audits, including:Preparing Prepared by Client (PBC) schedules in a timely manner.Ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.Responding to auditors' inquiries in accordance with company policies.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)Minimum 4 years of accounting experience (required)Experience in regulated utility accounting is a plusStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
