We're looking for a detail-oriented cost accountant to join our finance team with a strong background in cost accounting, a keen analytical mindset, and experience working in a job cost environment such as construction or project-based industries.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Maintain and analyze job cost data, ensuring accurate allocation of labor, materials, and overhead.Monitor and reconcile job cost variances, identifying inefficiencies and recommending corrective actions.Work closely with project managers to ensure cost accuracy and proper tracking of project expenses.Manage customer billing processes, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing based on project milestones or contract terms.Work alongside project managers to ensure proper billing alignment with job costs and contract requirements.Reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices to maintain cash flow.Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and communicating with customers as needed.Utilize data analytics tools to track job costs, profitability, and key performance indicators (KPIs).Prepare reports and dashboards to support financial decision-making.Assist with cost allocation and variance analysis.Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and enhance financial controls.Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and procurement teams to optimize cost management processes.Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.Support internal and external audits by providing cost data and documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, job cost tracking, cost allocation, and variance analysis.Ability to analyze and communicate financial data effectively to support cost control and project profitability.Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with data preparation and reconciliation for financial reporting.Requires experience with financial accounting systems, including general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, and budgeting.Requires strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, operations, and finance teams.Some travel may be required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Requires bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field plus three or more years of related experience.
