The GL Accountant specializing in sales and property tax is responsible for the preparation, entry, maintenance, and review tax returns, licensing, certifications, and fixed assets. This a heavy deadline driven position that requires attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Sales and Use Tax Returns

a) Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns using Excel spreadsheets and advance functions to prepare the returns. Save documentation

as required for audit purposes. Submit payment information for approval and recording into AP.

b) Prepare monthly reconciliations, journal entries, adjustments, and reports.

c) Monitor sales tax email and answer any questions related to sales tax using known information, consulting state websites or calling tax authorities when additional

information is required.

d) Review AP invoices to ensure proper tax is being charged.

e) Review customer Invoices for sales, service and other accounting teams. Request corrections as needed.

f) Ensure customer tax certificate compliance. Validate certificates received. Regularly audit and maintain a current tax certificate and customer list. Audit tax returns

to ensure we have proper certificates for transactions. Issue request letters or emails to customers to obtain missing or replace expired certifications.

g) Maintain the company's resale certificates and issue to any vendors as requested or prior to expiration. Inform Accounts Payable and Project Coordinators of updates.

h) Keep up to date on all sales tax laws, compliance changes, and economic nexus thresholds that correlate with our different locations. Notify management of new

laws, compliance requirements and update processes, as necessary. Register with new States when nexus dictates.

i) Collect state tax rate information and update system tax codes and rates for multiple states as required.

j) Elevate education and training by taking classes through CPA Academy, Avalara University, State courses or other resources. Continuing education is important as

tax laws and compliance change.

2. Licenses; maintain, audit, review, pay, research existing and new state requirements

3. Property Tax Returns and Invoices; Monthly purchase journal review, prepare and submit returns by deadlines, run annual and ad hoc audits for property taxes.

4. Fixed Assets; initiate annual asset review, manage capex forms, run monthly reports

5. Unclaimed Property; assist collecting data for unclaimed property, file unclaimed property annually.

6. Accounting; Prepare journal entries as needed, prepare monthly GL reconciliations, pull records, and assist in audits

7. Other Duties and Projects

a) Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

b) Suggest and implement any new process improvements.

c) Document and update training materials.

d) Provide tax training classes and documents for other departments.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

One of the following: Accounting certificate or degree, 3 years+ related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and Viewpoint. Strong Excel skills required.

Expert level time management, organization skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and the highest level of professionalism.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually.

Opportunity for a discretionary year end bonus.

401k with a 40% employer match (up to federal limit.)
