We have an exciting hybrid opportunity for a Senior Accountant based in our Little Rock, AR office.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for the day-to-day revenue and associated cost of gas accounting for the natural gas utility companies within Summit Utilities, Inc. This role will report to the Manager of Revenue and Gas Cost Accounting and will work closely with other groups including FP&A, Regulatory, Gas Supply and Gas Management. The position will be responsible for analyzing data and calculating accruals for revenue and cost of gas. This role will also be responsible for reviewing and reconciling regulatory assets and liabilities to ensure their accuracy and completeness.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze and complete journal entries for revenue, commodity expenses, regulatory assets and liabilities, and other entries as assignedPrepare all entries in accordance with the deadlines per the close calendarPerform analysis on revenue and commodity expenses as assignedReconcile all revenue and cost of gas and regulatory balance sheet accounts on a monthly basisParticipate in monthly revenue reviews with managementWork with the FP&A and Regulatory teams on financial analysis and explanationsSupport the annual financial statement auditsProvide accounting support for regulatory rate cases as required
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in accounting requiredAt least 5 years of similar, progressive experience requiredProficiency in the use of Excel requiredRegulated utility accounting a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP)Strong analytical skills, with ability to analyze data and historical trends to determine reasonableness and accuracy entries and financial results.Ability to maintain motivation and focus to complete tasks within required timelinesAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within tight timeframesPossesses strong organizational and project-planning skillsWork requires professional written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work well in a team and independently
