The tax department supports all tax-related functions for a multi-billion dollar publicly traded real estate investment trust (a "REIT") based in Orlando, Florida. The tax department works directly with the chief accounting officer and chief financial officer and is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance with federal, state, and local tax authorities, assisting with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting, including quarterly tax provisions and REIT compliance tests while ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act governing internal controls.


  • Prepare REIT compliance tests, including quarterly asset and annual income tests.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision calculations and footnote.
  • Prepare annual earnings and profits calculation and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare annualized REIT taxable income projections.
  • Responsible for federal, state, and local tax compliance, including the preparation of accurate federal and state estimated payments, extension calculations, and forms.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of tax return supporting schedules, including tax consolidations, tax depreciation, and state apportionment.
  • Coordinate and interact with outside accounting firms for certain outsourced tax return preparation services and other projects as needed.
  • Develop lease models and complete transfer pricing studies as needed.
  • Prepare the monthly property tax accrual, coordinate the timely payment of all property tax bills and preparation of business personal property tax returns, and assist with property tax budgets and appeals as needed.
  • Assist with tax audits, including sales tax audits, as needed.
  • Complete federal and state and local tax research as needed.
  • Ensure and document compliance with internal controls. Coordinate and update process documentation as needed.
  • Interact with accounting and other departments, especially in regards to ensuring financial data is accurate.


  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Business / Finance with a heavy concentration in accounting or tax required.
  • Master of Taxation or Accounting preferred.


  • Tax professional with at least four years of experience in corporate and partnership taxation, preferably from a Big 4 accounting firm or other equivalent large corporate tax firm.
  • Real estate investment trust and ASC 740 experience are strongly preferred.
  • Federal and multi-state tax experience required.


  • Must have a solid working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax concepts for both corporations and partnerships.
  • Real estate investment trust experience preferred.
  • Must have working experience with corporate taxable income calculations, partnership allocations and withholding, ASC 740 tax provisions, earnings and profits analysis, and tax depreciation.
  • Must have experience with multi-state apportionment concepts and general knowledge of common state tax issues.
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and highly organized.
  • Must have solid analytical skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while meeting all statutory and management-driven deadlines.
  • Must possess a willingness to learn and be dedicated to providing quality work products quickly and accurately.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrate strong research skills, including written documentation skills.


  • CPA preferred.


  • Must possess excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Sage Fixed Asset Solutions, enterprise accounting, and report tools preferred.
