Full-time position available with the Water Department, Finance Administration Division located at 4800 East 63rd Street
Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., *telework available 1 day per pay period

  • Plans, organizes, and reviews water, sewer and stormwater projects to ensure proper accounting of capital project expenditures.
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Accounting, Permits and Contract Administration divisions to ensure accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board requirements for Construction in Progress and Fixed Assets.
  • Prepares journal entries to recognize water main extensions placed in service.
  • Maintains the Project Module in Peoplesoft. Assigns new project numbers, tracks project status to completion.
  • Performs monthly journal entries to recognize new capital assets, completed projects and proper depreciation schedules.
  • Records capital asset additions, transfers and contributed capital.
  • Reconciles the construction-In-progress accounts.
  • Prepare Year-end audit schedules to ensure audited financial statements accurately reflect construction in progress for the Water Services Department.
  • Applies statistical techniques (econometric modeling, present value, regression analysis, time series, etc.) to assist in problem solving.
  • Performs related duties as required.


REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related subject area and 5 years professional experience in governmental or business accounting, including 2 years of intermediate professional accounting at the level of Accountant II; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
