The Job
San Bernardino County is recruiting for Accountants III who prepare, analyze, and interpret a variety of complex financial statements; prepare and monitor budgets and claims which require the application of cost accounting; establish new accounting procedures and controls; and review legislation for fiscal impact and advise department management of recommendations.

The eligible list established by this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies throughout the County including contract positions, as well as in the County Fire Department and Special Districts Department. Applicants will be asked to indicate their availability and preference for referral to contract positions and the different agencies in the Supplemental Questionnaire.
The County Fire Department and Special Districts Department are separate entities from San Bernardino County, and as such, compensation and benefits for their positions are set forth in a different compensation plan. The salary for Special Districts Accountant III is $65,374 - $90,126 annually (range 39); for additional details, refer to the Non-Represented Employee Compensation Plan MOU and Benefits Summary .
Certified Public Accountant Stipend - $750 annual CPA stipend for employees who attain and maintain a valid CPA License.
**Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Proposition 172 Sales Tax Collections performance.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Applicant must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment. 2) Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment; employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Minimum Requirements
Experience: Two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
AND
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting OR Bachelor's degree in another field which includes 30 semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in accounting or related field, half of which MUST be upper division. A list of completed college coursework or legible transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Substitution: An active California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license may substitute for the education requirements. List your license number under the license/certification section of the application.
Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, extensive professional-level accounting experience in the public sector and an active CPA license.
